Everything You Need to Know

ANSWERS TO THE MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS SURROUNDING COSMETIC  ACUPUNCTURE
  • How does Cosmetic Acupuncture actually work?
Cosmetic Acupuncture works by stimulating the body’s natural production of collagen. When you break the body’s skin barrier, it triggers the body’s healing response to send red blood cells and white blood cells to the area. When we use needles to do so, the micro trauma created also requires a protein to repair the “damage” and that protein in collagen. So YES! You can produce your own collagen, but your body isn’t just going to do it for you, you need something to stimulate it - cue the facial needles!
  • How many sessions do I need to book?
This depends on your skin care goals, current skin situation and age (sigh). Are you coming in for fine and wrinkles? Or do you have acne that you want to get rid of? Or is the acne gone (yay) but now you have acne scars (wtf?!). General rule of thumb is you want to do multiple sessions close together for best results. To find more info about your individual needs feel free to contact Amrit Singh R.Ac directly here.
  • What can I expect during Facial Acupuncture?
Even though Cosmetic Acupuncture is used to treat the skin, it is an holistic treatment and above all it is still Acupuncture. This means when you come in we still do a full health history, diagnosis and body treatment, like a regular Acupuncture session and then we treat the face. So it’s truly like two treatments in one. Bonus.
  • Can Cosmetic Acupuncture help with acne?
This is such a personal question to me, because I used Cosmetic Acupuncture when I was struggling with my adult acne and the answer is yes it can. Acupuncture and specifically Japanese style (the main style I’m trained in) has a different approach to treating acne from the inside out and combining the facial needles to speed up the healing process, reduce inflammation and prevent further scarring, it really can bring great results.
  • Is there anything else I should know before I book?
Yes, a few things: If you want to do Cosmetic Acupuncture before a big event please make sure you come in 5 days prior to the event. This is to leave space in case of any bruising to fully heal. Also, please be aware that you shouldn’t touch up your make up for up to 4 hours after a session. So if you are coming for a day appointment, make sure you allow a good amount of time before your night time glam. If you have any other questions, please fill out the questionnaire form below :)
